There’s more to your well-being than just training and eating healthy foods. Taking a global look at your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is crucial for your overall health. We like to call this self-care. Here are some of our favorite practices for self-care.
We may be following social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t able to connect with each other! Set up an online coffee date or happy hour with your your favorite people. Keep it cheerful and tell each other a good thing that happened to you in the last few days. Brainstorm plans for when you can meet again and how awesome it will be to give them a big, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can care for each other. That’s what friends are for!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Craft a plan for your yourself but allow for some flexibility. For one thing, set an alarm for around the same time each morning and head to bed around the same time every night. Draft your intentions for the day and slate out your work tasks, but set aside some time for your daily workout, a walk around the neighborhood, or to relax with your favorite book. Don’t be too severe with your plan that you add extra stress. Finding a balance between procedure and leisure will help you have a more constructive and enjoyable day.
Thankfulness is good for anyone. The more gratitude we display to others during uncertain times, the more cheerful and more resilient we become. Provide others grace. One of our preferred ways to practice gratitude is to call a loved one and let them know how much you appreciate them. A a simple note is also a refreshing and wonderful surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.
There is nothing better than spending time outside, taking in the fresh air. Take a walk with your dog every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and find out how they’re doing. Stay in the sun for a bit and focus on taking slow breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out together at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy our food! Craft a new method for dinner and make your meals feel special. Turn up your favorite song, get the kiddos in on it, and have some fun with it!
